The Seven Churches Visitation is a Catholic tradition observed on the evening of Holy Thursday. It involves visiting seven different churches to pray and reflect, particularly on the Passion of Christ. This practice originated in Rome, where pilgrims would visit the seven major basilicas as an act of penance and devotion. Saint Philip Neri popularized the tradition in the 1500s by organizing pilgrimages to these churches.
On Holy Thursday, April 17, 2025, instead of the regularly scheduled SUMMIT night at The Cathedral of Our Lady of Perpetual Help, there will be Mass at the cathedral at 7 p.m. to be followed by the visitation of six other churches in the metro area.
Come join fellow Catholics on the journey to stay awake with Jesus!

Image: "Christ in Gethsemane," *Timoteo Viti*, (1469-1523)Luke 22:39-46 39 And he came out, and went, as was his custom, to the Mount of Olives; and the disciples followed him. 40 And when he came to the place he said to them, “Pray that you may not enter into temptation.” 41 And he withdrew from them about a stone’s throw, and knelt down and prayed, 42 “Father, if thou art willing, remove this cup from me; nevertheless not my will, but thine, be done.” 43 And there appeared to him an angel from heaven, strengthening him. 44 And being in an agony he prayed more earnestly; and his sweat became like great drops of blood falling down upon the ground.[a] 45 And when he rose from prayer, he came to the disciples and found them sleeping for sorrow, 46 and he said to them, “Why do you sleep? Rise and pray that you may not enter into temptation.”

Image: "Christ before Annas," *Matthias Stom*, (1600-after 1650)John 18:19-22 19 The high priest then questioned Jesus about his disciples and his teaching. 20 Jesus answered him, “I have spoken openly to the world; I have always taught in synagogues and in the temple, where all Jews come together; I have said nothing secretly. 21 Why do you ask me? Ask those who have heard me, what I said to them; they know what I said.” 22 When he had said this, one of the officers standing by struck Jesus with his hand, saying, “Is that how you answer the high priest?”
Reflection Questions: - How do you handle unjust accusations or misunderstandings? - Ask Jesus to reveal to you a relationship that needs healing.
Image: "Christ Before Caiaphas," *Gerrit van Honthorst*, (1590-1656)Matthew 26:63-65 63 But Jesus was silent. And the high priest said to him, “I adjure you by the living God, tell us if you are the Christ, the Son of God.” 64 Jesus said to him, “You have said so. But I tell you, hereafter you will see the Son of man seated at the right hand of Power, and coming on the clouds of heaven.” 65 Then the high priest tore his robes, and said, “He has uttered blasphemy. Why do we still need witnesses? You have now heard his blasphemy.
Reflection Questions: - How do you react when your faith is challenged or questioned? - Ask Jesus to reveal to you the biggest lie about yourself that you struggle with.
Image: "Jesus Before Pilate, First Interview," *James Tissot*, (1836-1902)John 18:35-37 35 Pilate answered, “Am I a Jew? Your own nation and the chief priests have handed you over to me; what have you done?” 36 Jesus answered, “My kingship is not of this world; if my kingship were of this world, my servants would fight, that I might not be handed over to the Jews; but my kingship is not from the world.” 37 Pilate said to him, “So you are a king?” Jesus answered, “You say that I am a king. For this I was born, and for this I have come into the world, to bear witness to the truth. Every one who is of the truth hears my voice.”
Reflection Questions: - How do you stand firm in your beliefs when confronted by authority? - It is said that the path to heaven is a long obedience in the same direction, what direction is Jesus calling you to?
Image: "Christ Before Herod" *Andrea Schiavone*, (1500-1563)Luke 23:8-11 8 When Herod saw Jesus, he was very glad, for he had long desired to see him, because he had heard about him, and he was hoping to see some sign done by him. 9 So he questioned him at some length; but he made no answer. 10 The chief priests and the scribes stood by, vehemently accusing him. 11 And Herod with his soldiers treated him with contempt and mocked him; then, arraying him in gorgeous apparel, he sent him back to Pilate.
Reflection Questions: - How do you respond to curiosity about your faith? - Ask Jesus to reveal to you the obstacles to sharing your faith.
Image: "Ecce Homo" *Antonio Ciseri*, (1821-1891)Matthew 27:22-26 22 Pilate said to them, “Then what shall I do with Jesus who is called Christ?” They all said, “Let him be crucified.” 23 And he said, “Why, what evil has he done?” But they shouted all the more, “Let him be crucified.”24 So when Pilate saw that he was gaining nothing, but rather that a riot was beginning, he took water and washed his hands before the crowd, saying, “I am innocent of this righteous man’s blood;[a] see to it yourselves.” 25 And all the people answered, “His blood be on us and on our children!” 26 Then he released for them Barab′bas, and having scourged Jesus, delivered him to be crucified.

Image: "Crucifixion" *Peter Gertner*, (1495-after 1541)Matthew 27:45-50 45 Now from the sixth hour there was darkness over all the land[d] until the ninth hour. 46 And about the ninth hour Jesus cried with a loud voice, “Eli, Eli, la′ma sabach-tha′ni?” that is, “My God, my God, why hast thou forsaken me?”[e] 47 And some of the bystanders hearing it said, “This man is calling Eli′jah.” 48 And one of them at once ran and took a sponge, filled it with vinegar, and put it on a reed, and gave it to him to drink. 49 But the others said, “Wait, let us see whether Eli′jah will come to save him.”[f] 50 And Jesus cried again with a loud voice and yielded up his spirit.
