(Aug. 5, 2019) – Oklahoma is far too familiar with the violent outcomes of hate. As El Paso, Dayton and other communities mourn their loss and struggle to understand why, each one of us must recommit ourselves to daily lives of prayer, respect and mercy in spite of our differences of opinion or religion or politics. Our society has reached a new level of callous disregard for the sacredness of innocent human life. We must resist the temptation to despise one another and instead embrace our shared inherent dignity. -- Most Rev. Paul S. Coakley, Archbishop of Oklahoma City

On the feast day of Blessed Stanley Rother at his home parish of Holy Trinity in Okarche, a new painting of the martyred priest baptizing a child was unveiled. Half a world away, in Santiago Atitlan, Guatemala, a print of the artwork was presented to the people he loved and served until his death.

I had a seat high up in the arena, which gave me a unique vantage point. I could see the crowd of nearly 5,000 young people in its entirety from where I sat. We had just celebrated the closing mass at the Steubenville Mid-America Youth Conference.
