Catholic Schools Week – an annual celebration of what makes Catholic education so special – will be celebrated from Jan. 26 - Feb. 1. Nationally, schools observe the celebration week with Masses, open houses and other activities for students, families, parishioners and community members. Through these events, schools focus on the value a Catholic education provides to young people and its contributions to our Church, communities and nation.
Our Catholic schools in the Archdiocese of Oklahoma City will set aside this week to build awareness of our Catholic schools. From the northern part of the state at Saint Joseph in Enid to the southern part of the state at Saint Mary in Lawton to those centrally located in Oklahoma City, we must share with everyone the important role of Catholic schools in making the world a better place. We honor those who make our schools a success – students, families, faculty, staff, volunteers, community supporters and local leaders.
The theme of the 2020 celebration is “Catholic Schools: Learn. Serve. Lead. Succeed.” The theme encompasses the core values found in Catholic schools across the country. Not only are we teaching students to become future servant leaders, faith-filled disciples and enriched citizens in our communities, our educators are growing with them.
In Catholic schools, we all are learners, servants and leaders. These shared qualities are what make Catholic schools succeed.
This year’s theme also focuses on key elements of Catholic education: faith development, academic excellence and dedication to service. These elements set Catholic schools apart from other educational options. They are why families make sacrifices to provide their children with a Catholic education.
