The Bishop McGuinness Catholic High School pom team, coached and choreographed by Jamie Lane, was crowned the 2020 Class 5A Jazz Division Title winners. The team competed virtually at the Oklahoma State Dance Team Directors' Association annual competition on Dec. 12.
Additionally, the team received the High Point Jazz Award – the first time in 16 years that a Class 5A team took home this award – and the Outstanding Choreography Award. Both awards are given to one team out of all the teams that competed in all classes. The Irish pom team has placed six out of the seven years it has been part of Bishop McGuinness athletics. They previously received the division title in 2016 and 2017, and were named runners-up in 2015, 2018 and 2019.
Seniors Sophia Davies, Molly Godfrey, Jane Nelson and Elizabeth Wright, were named All-Region at the competition. Sophia Davies and Elizabeth Wright also were named All-State.
The 2020-21 Irish pom state team is comprised of Sophia Davies (captain), Talon Floyd, Molly Godfrey, Casey Gormley, Jillian Hibbard, Kate Lipps (captain), Jane Nelson (captain), Elizabeth Wright, Colette Conaway, Emery Hammond, Molly Mullins, Emma Rowland (captain), Kate Skarky, Reese Parks, Avery Payne and Alyssa Schmit, Alex Ille, Sarah Newby and Laura Wright.
