Sister Joyce Rupp, O.S.M., a member of the Servite order (Servants of Mary) has written many books and articles. She is a contributor to the Catholic devotional “Living Faith” which is where I discovered her work. She is the co-director of the Institute of Compassionate Presence and volunteers with Hospice.
She has a master’s degree in Transpersonal Psychology and a master’s degree in religious education. Her many writings and other material can be found at joycerupp.com.
Sister Rupp’s current book, “Jesus, Guide of my Life: Reflections for the Lenten Journey,” provides a short meditation or reflection for Lent.
In this current book, Rupp reflects on temptation, awareness, prayer, humility, self-esteem, suffering, loving one’s enemy, and many more topics. The reflections are short and not time consuming. A reader can read the one for the day and ponder it and possibly go back to it later in the day.
There is an introduction, followed by reflections that start with Ash Wednesday and end with Easter Sunday. Each day’s readings start with a scripture reading which does not come from the Mass readings for the day. The readings are followed by a short, a short prayer and a suggested thought to ponder during the day.
The book also offers questions for personal reflections or group discussion.
“Jesus, Guide of my Life: Reflections for the Lenten Journey,” can also be read with two other books for Lent by Sister Rupp: “Jesus, Friend of my Soul” (2020) and “Jesus, Companion in my Suffering” (2023).
This book is highly recommended for those looking for a quick or short book for every day of Lent.
