The Center of Family Love (CFL), a non-profit organization dedicated to improving the lives of those living with intellectual disabilities, is proud to announce the opening of applications for its 2023-24 Teen Board. This initiative, comprised of a select group of high school students from surrounding Oklahoma schools, aims to foster a sense of community, inclusivity and empowerment while breaking boundaries and transforming lives.
The Teen Board members, chosen based on their compelling applications, will meet monthly with CFL residents and assist them in discovering and nurturing their unique talents and passions.
In addition to their direct interaction with residents, the Teen Board will undertake fundraising endeavors to support the CFL community. This will include the organization of a major spring event on the CFL campus, the proceeds of which will directly benefit the residents.
"The Teen Board represents a significant step not only in the growth of our organization but in our mission to create a more inclusive and empowering society," Keely Ross said, Center of Family Love’s Teen Board advisor. "We believe that by connecting teenagers with our residents, we can cultivate mutual understanding, respect, and friendship that will have a lasting impact not only on our residents but also on the teenagers themselves."
The Center of Family Love hopes that through their participation in the Teen Board, members will finish their journey with a profound sense of achievement, having made a positive impact on the lives of the residents.
"Everyone needs a mentor,” Ross said. "And we believe that the Teen Board members and our residents can be mentors to each other. This can be a transformative journey for all involved."
