Deacon William "Bill" W. Bawden III passed away Jan. 20. He was 82.
He was born in Mobile, Ala., on Dec. 1, 1938, to William and Mildred Bawden Jr. He graduated from Mirplay High School in Mobile, Ala.
He is a graduate of the University of South Alabama where he earned his bachelor’s degree; The Stonier Graduate School of Banking; Kansas Newman College; and the Aquinas Institute of Theology where he earned a master’s degree. He worked in the financial industry for 34 years.
On May 6, 1994, he was ordained a permanent deacon. He served for 26 years at Saint John the Baptist Catholic Church in Edmond and Saint Eugene Catholic Church in Oklahoma City. He was one of the founders of “In The Father’s Footsteps” Oklahoma Catholic Men’s Conference. He co-authored two Catholic faith sharing guides: Signposts for men and A Beloved Daughter of God for women.
Deacon Bawden is survived by his wife Sylvia, of 44 years; children, Randy and wife Debbie, Beth, and Rebecca; grandchildren, Travis, Taylor and fiancé Trey, and Kayla; great-grandchildren, Kolten, Bennett and Denver; also survived by Tuttie and husband Bill, Lena and husband James, Fermie and Pat, Wayne, Anthony and Tillie, Joey and Lisa, Manny and Jenn, Bernadette and Albert, Antoinette and Ernest; as well as 16 nieces and nephews.
A Mass of a Christian Burial was held Jan. 23 at Saint John the Baptist Catholic Church in Edmond. Burial at Memorial Park Cemetery.
