Knights of Columbus Council 916 hosted their fourth annual Stuff the Truck with Turkeys for God’s Food Bank in Guthrie and the Crescent Food Bank from Nov. 5 to Nov. 11.
The first year’s collection brought in a mere 40 turkeys. This year, the council worked with Saint Mary Catholic Church, Guthrie High School and a local car dealership. They collected 340 turkeys and hams for the two food banks that were all distributed the week before Thanksgiving. God’s Food Bank helped 270 families and the Crescent Food Bank assisted 172 families for their holiday dinners.
The turkeys and hams together weighed more than 5,000 pounds.
“This project struck a chord in the community,” said Grand Knight David Nolan. “Everyone sees the need of the poor families in our rural area, and this allows them, especially young people, to get involved in doing
good for others."
