Oklahoma Catholic women are invited to hear inspiration and motivational speakers at the 2020 Oklahoma Catholic Women’s Conference on Saturday, March 28, at the Embassy Suites in Norman.
Reconciliation, adoration, vendors and a silent auction also will be available for participants. Registration and vendors open at 7:30 a.m. The conference begins at 8:30 a.m. and concludes with a Mass at 4:30 p.m. celebrated by Archbishop Coakley.
The registration fee is $65 through March 1. After March 1, registration will be $75.
Participants are encouraged to bring donations for Sanctuary Women’s Development Center, a ministry of Catholic Charities that provides resources and support for low income and homeless women and children. Donations can include personal hygiene products, baby supplies and gift cards for gas and groceries.
Speakers for the conference include national experts, authors and moms, including Bonnie Engstrom whose son’s Vatican-approved miracle was credited to the intercession of Ven. Fulton Sheen.
Kathryn Whitaker - Live Big, Love Bigger: Living a 'Hell Yes' Kind of Life
The stressful premature birth of her fifth child threw Whitaker's orderly world into chaos and ultimately led her to rethink her priorities. She said we all can live a life of authenticity with joy-filled purpose, love and faith. She hopes participants will see that choosing to say “no” is the only way you'll be able to say, “Hell yes!” to what matters most – Jesus.
Whitaker will share what it’s like raising a raucous Catholic family, including a preemie, while balancing her freelance graphic design business. Whitaker is a blogger, speaker and freelance graphic designer. A sixth-generation Texan, she was raised as an evangelical Protestant.
Jennifer Roback Morse, Ph.D. - Protecting Children from Gender Ideology
Morse will talk about the current cultural pressures, homosexuality and transgenderism. She will outline her plan on reforming the Church and culture and how Catholics can help the Church in the hour of need. Morse is the founder of The Ruth Institute, a global non-profit organization equipping Christians to defend the family. She was a campaign spokeswoman for California’s winning Proposition 8 campaign, defining marriage as the union of a man and a woman. She has authored or co-authored six books and spoken around the globe. Morse was named one of the “Catholic Stars of 2013,” on a list that included Pope Francis and Pope Benedict XVI. She and her husband are parents of an adopted child, a birth child, a goddaughter and were foster parents for San Diego County to eight foster children. In 2015, Morse and her husband relocated to Lake Charles, La., where the work of the Ruth Institute continues.
Bonnie Engstrom - 61 Minutes to a Miracle
With a mother’s heart, Engstrom will share the story of her son James’s Vatican-approved miraculous rising from the dead and complete healing through the intercession of Ven. Fulton J. Sheen, including information on the miracle and the canonization process. Engstrom is a writer, baker and speaker. She loves the Holy Trinity, Masterpiece Theater and taking out her feelings on dough. She and her husband had seven kids in nine years and her home is happy, loud and seasonally decorated.
The Oklahoma Catholic Women's Conference is a 501(c)3 organization. Donations are tax deductible. The mission of the Oklahoma Catholic Women's Conference is to provide an annual event for the women of Oklahoma. It is our hope that these events will give women a more extensive knowledge of their Catholic faith as well as encourage them to receive the many graces available through frequent reception of the sacraments and the study of Sacred Scripture in conjunction with the Catechism. We recognize the Blessed Mother as the model for living a faithful, Christ-centered life and encourage devotion to her.
