Following an extended Christmas break, Cristo Rey returned for the new semester and found … snow. And snow days.
Back at it, again, we’ve arrived at Catholic Schools Week with an appreciation of what a Catholic education provides. We chatted with several students, seeking what stands out as important to them about the benefits of a Catholic education.
For freshman Alicia Harjo, said her favorite part about the school is the Corporate Work Study Program, because it's essential for high schoolers to get to learn how to work in a professional work force. She said her favorite memory has been the Freshman Retreat, as it allowed her to work with other classmates she hadn't worked with before and to get to know them better.
She's looking forward to learning more about the Catholic faith and to learn more Spanish.
Another freshman, Lucero Pinon, said her favorite part about the school are the teachers, who are very helpful and supportive. Lucy said she is looking forward to getting to know more people at school.
Sophomore Esteban Martinez said he enjoys the Corporate Work Study Program unique to Cristo Rey, along with the students and staff who are eager to help and willing to work to make us the best students we can be. He said the Sophomore Retreat in December brought him closer to the Lord.
Hatziry ManriquezJessica AlatorreSeniors Hatziry Manriquez and Jessica Alatorre said they value the community and being able to experience going to Mass on Fridays as a school. They, too, have enjoyed the Corporate Work Study Program and the different networks created along the way. They are both looking forward to graduating and all the senior activities coming up.
Another senior Ricardo Guzman said, “My favorite thing about Cristo Rey would most likely be the Corporate Work Study Program. I feel like it brings so many new opportunities to students, either by giving them an internship, or even presenting to them something they could potentially pursue in the future. The students also get to meet so many more people which can sometimes present them with even more opportunities.”
Mariana Carrera is a sophomore at Cristo Rey OKC Catholic High School.
