The Central Region Council of Catholic Women received more than 60 entries for their essay contest. The board reviewed all the entries and notified the winners. The essays showed comparisons with the saints and superheroes. The winners were presented a certificate and monetary gift at the Day of Prayer and Reflection, “Saints and Superheroes,” on April 29.
The question asked was: “Marvel and DC Comics have made superheroes an exciting and extremely popular part of today’s entertainment. Explain why characters with superpowers are so popular? Compare them to actual saints who could raise from the dead, bilocate, fly, turn away armies, heal the deaf and blind, tell the future, etc. Are saints’ superheroes that people have forgotten or neglected? How and why does God use his saints?”
