The Sooner Catholic received two awards from the Catholic Media Association during the 2021 Catholic Media Conference held virtually June 8-10.
Archbishop Coakley received third place in the Best Regular Column by Bishop or Archbishop category for his Put Out into the Deep columns in the Sooner Catholic.
Managing Editor Dana Attocknie won honorable mention in the Best Feature Writing – Diocesan Newspaper division for her story “American Indian Catholics celebrate faith, culture,” published in the Nov. 8 Sooner Catholic.
The Sooner Catholic is the official newspaper for the Archdiocese of Oklahoma City and is mailed to more than 50,000 households to assist Archbishop Coakley, clergy, parishes, schools and staff to spread the Good News of the Gospel and to “Go Make Disciples!”
Because of its circulation, the newspaper is in the same category as the largest cities and Catholic newspapers in the country. Archbishop Coakley serves as publisher; Diane Clay serves as editor.
