SULPHUR – With the arrival of Father Aaron Foshee as pastor in 2018, the staff and parishioners at Saint Francis Xavier Catholic Church began thinking of ways to follow Archbishops Coakley’s call to “go and make disciples.”
“When I was seminarian, I learned a Spanish phrase that has always struck with me, ‘Misa, Mesa, Musa,’ which translates to Mass, Table, Music. This phrase exemplifies the focus of our inaugural Feast Day Mass and celebration, which will be held at 6 p.m. in downtown Sulphur on Dec. 3,” Father Foshee said.
The program will be held in the city plaza and is open to the public.
“This outreach to our local community springs from our parish’s desire to offer the Catholic Faith to our neighbors in a way we’ve not done before. We want people to know who we are and who they can be in Christ, by presenting the very source and summit of our Catholic Faith for all to see in the Eucharist.”
The event will include tamales, tacos, Mexican Christmas punch, hot chocolate, snacks, music and games.
It is a huge undertaking for the small parish and requires a number of volunteers.
“The parishioners have really stepped up and volunteered to help on this huge undertaking. It is such an exciting event,” said Rosalina Aglialoro –Hoyle, parish secretary. “We couldn’t even begin to try to do it without everyone pitching in.”
