NEW YORK CITY - The Sisters of Life, a religious congregation with a special fourth vow to protect and enhance the sacredness of human life, is pleased to announce that seven sisters professed their first vows as Sisters of Life on June 25, the feast of the Immaculate Heart of Mary, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Suffern, N.Y. Bishop Salvatore Matano of the Diocese of Rochester, N.Y., was the principal celebrant and homilist. Mother Agnes, Mother Superior of the Sisters of Life, received the sisters into the community at the Mass.
One sister was from Oklahoma. Karalyn Finnell, now known as Sister Zion Joy, is 29 years old and graduated from the Academy of Contemporary Music at the University of Central Oklahoma in 2015, with a degree in contemporary vocal performance. Prior to entering the Sisters of Life in 2019, she served as a Catholic singer/songwriter and a missionary through Catholic Youth Expeditions, Catholic Familyland and the Community of the Beatitudes Missions.
She is the daughter of Jeff and Kathryn Finnell of Edmond. The family attends Saint Monica Catholic Church in Edmond. Her siblings are Lorryn McGarry and her husband Taylor; Garrett Finnell and his wife Caye and Alayna Finnell.
Sister Zion Joy has been with the Sisters of Life for three years; one year as a postulant and two years as a novice, serving in the New York City area. The Sisters of Life operate crisis pregnancy centers in New York City and promote the sanctity of life at all stages of life.
