Three divisions created in Secretariat for Evangelization and Catechesis
Archbishop Coakley this past month announced the restructuring of the Secretariat for Evangelization and Catechesis at the chancery into three divisions – (1) Catholic Education, (2) Youth, Young Adults and Campus Ministry, and (3) Discipleship, Marriage and Family Life (with Hispanic Ministry).
The change divides the largest segment of the chancery into three areas to help improve efficiency and return the Office of Catholic Education to its own department, which will be led by the Director of Catholic Education Lara Schuler. The secretariat will no longer have an executive director.
The Secretariat for Evangelization and Catechesis was created five years ago when the chancery was reorganized to align with Archbishop Coakley’s pastoral priorities in his pastoral letter,” Go Make Disciples.”
Beginning July 1, the three senior directors of the new divisions will be: Lara Schuler (Catholic Education), Jim Beckman (Youth, Young Adults and Campus Ministry) and Luis Soto (Discipleship, Marriage and Family Life with Hispanic Ministry).
“We are happy to welcome back Luis Soto, who has served as a valuable advisor and leader on the chancery staff and in Hispanic ministry, and we are grateful to Jim and Lara for taking on the new roles as senior directors,” said Father William Novak, V.G., Moderator of the Curia, who is managing the transition.
The restructuring will not affect ministries provided by the secretariat.
