On Monday, June 5, the Oklahoma Statewide Virtual Charter School Board voted 3-2 to approve an application by the Archdiocese of Oklahoma City and the Diocese of Tulsa to create the Saint Isidore of Seville Virtual Catholic Charter School as an online public charter school.
Currently set to open in the fall of 2024, the school would be the first religious charter school in the country and would be another option for parents to choose from when determining the best education environment for their children.
Brett Farley, director of the Catholic Conference of Oklahoma, said the outcome of the long process was a positive one.
“We are elated that the board agreed with our argument and application for the nation’s first religious charter school. Parents continue to demand more options for their kids, and we are committed to help provide them,” Farley said.
