Each year, the Catholic Foundation of Oklahoma provides grants to support projects at parishes, schools and other Catholic institutions within the Archdiocese of Oklahoma City to spread the Gospel of Jesus Christ by creating and enriching educational and evangelizing opportunities in Catholic communities.
The application period for the CFO Education and Evangelization Grant opens Oct. 1. Find more information at cfook.org/education-evangelization-grant.
One recipient of the CFO grant, the youth group at Our Lady of Victory Catholic Church in Purcell, applied for the grant to partially fund a mission trip to Yabucoa, Puerto Rico, in 2019. The mission was part of the group’ goals to live their Catholic faith by putting social teachings into action, serving the poor, feeding the hungry, bringing drink to the thirsty and sheltering the homeless. Thirteen high school students and seven adults from Our Lady of Victory participated in the mission.
The group helped repair, repaint and restore a chapel damaged in Hurricane Maria. While there, the group stayed at Casa Cristo Renentor, a retreat center run by Dominican Fathers. After a hard day of work, each evening ended with a devotional with the day’s reflections and songs of praise. Upon completion of the repairs, a Mass was celebrated in the renovated chapel with a church full of families. In addition to the repair work, the group spent one day visiting, delivering food and praying with shut-in families.
