Deacon Sherman “Mac” McKaskle died Sept. 8 in Mangum.
Deacon McKaskle was born Jan. 18, 1944, in Orange, Texas, to Ezell McKaskle and Hazel Marielli. He was ordained a permanent deacon on Nov. 15, 2002, by Archbishop Emeritus Eusebius J. Beltran and was assigned to Queen of All Saints Catholic Church in Sayre. He retired from parish diaconal service in 2019.
Deacon McKaskle served in the U.S. Army for three years in medical evacuation and was a retired electrical meter technician. He received training in Texas Law Enforcement Officer Certification and Gupton-Jones College of Mortuary Science. He enjoyed reading, music, wood carving and remote-control airplanes.
He is survived by his wife Merle (Smith) McKaskle, son Matthew McKaskle and wife Lisa, son Andrew McKaskle and wife Monica, daughter Sarah Peffer and husband JJ, daughter Shannon Haenel and husband Kris, and 10 grandchildren.
The Mass of Christian Burial was held on Sept. 14 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Mangum. Interment at Reed Cemetery.
