Job Description St. Thomas More - Director of Campus Ministry Job Description
The role of the Director of Campus Ministry at St. Thomas More exists to lead college students at the University of Oklahoma to become authentic disciples of Jesus Christ. The Director of Campus Ministry is meant to enliven the spiritual fervor of the students to live a vibrant and sacramental life of discipleship with Jesus Christ within the Catholic Church. Therefore, Campus Ministry at St. Thomas More is aligned with Archbishop Coakley's vision for the Diocese of Oklahoma City in building missionary disciples through intentional experiences of Encounter, Accompany, Community, and Sending.
Encounter. The Director of Campus Ministry creates moments of Encounter by leading outreach efforts to incoming freshmen, transfer students, and students on the fringe in their faith. The Encounter stage begins with intentional outreach in the first month of school through planning and implementing events in order to engage new students on campus. Campus Ministry then invites the students to attend a gospel-oriented Fall Retreat run by the Director of Campus Ministry alongside the support of student leaders and FOCUS missionaries. Lastly, the Director of Campus Ministry creates moments for Encounter through efforts of gathering students to attend diocesan retreats and FOCUS Conferences.
Accompany. The Director of Campus Ministry is able to partner and support the work of FOCUS missionaries here at St. Thomas More in accompanying our students in their spiritual growth. The Director of Campus Ministry acts as a bridge for students to become plugged into missionary and student-led bible studies in order for students to experience accompaniment from missionaries and other faithful students. The Director of Campus Ministry may also serve as a source of friendship, pastoral support, and accompaniment for the missionaries as they in turn accompany students.
Community. The Director of Campus Ministry has opportunities to form a hospitable community through social events, service events, and outreach events. The right candidate will understand the direct impact that events have on developing a culture and furthermore the important role that culture plays in creating an environment for missionary discipleship to flourish.
Send. The Director of Campus Ministry is in charge of recruiting and leading groups of students as they serve on various Leadership Teams at St. Thomas More. These leadership teams and the students serving on them, lead teams for Sunday Supper (a free meal offered to students after the college mass), Holy Grounds (the Wednesday night college event), Liturgy, Outreach/Social Media, Wednesday Night Choir, Retreat, and Events. The Director of Campus Ministry should provide direction when necessary as well as pastoral support and care for the students in leadership.
Fundraising and Additional Responsibilities. The Director of Campus Ministry has additional responsibilities in fundraising for Campus Ministry by leading an annual Golf Tournament. The Director of Campus Ministry is an official staff member of the parish who works under the supervision of the pastor. Additional responsibilities include collaborating, serving, and assisting other staff members in their various departments (Religious Education, Marriage & Family Life, etc) when possible. Collaboration amongst the different ministry directors is essential for the flourishing of the parish. Additionally, other responsibilities may also be assigned by the pastor.
Minimum Qualifications: -Practicing Catholic with a degree in theology, ministry, or a related field OR demonstrated experience in ministry. -Ability to plan and implement ministry events and activities. -Prior experience with college students. -Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing. -Ability to navigate multiple projects and requests. -Organizational and time management skills. -Ability to network and build relationships with parishioners and in turn gain support for Campus Ministry.
Preferred Qualifications: -Prior experience and/or knowledge of FOCUS in order to be able to collaborate effectively. -Servant leader disposition to be able to serve the parish as a whole when needed. -Discipleship-minded and understands the value of spiritual multiplication. -Experience in recruiting others to join a cause, a team, or an initiative. -A level of teachability demonstrated through the ability to receive and implement correction, direction, or feedback from peers and supervisors. -Most importantly, the candidate should have a personal deep fervor for Jesus Christ that pervades the candidate's work, relationships, and life as a whole.
