Father Henry Roberson’s first assignment as a young priest was as associate pastor at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Oklahoma City. He has carried a fondness for the church and school since.
In 2022 Roberson, now retired, contacted the Catholic Foundation of Oklahoma to create the Sacred Heart OKC School Endowment. Earnings from the endowment provide the school with an annual distribution, in perpetuity. As the endowment grows, so will the amount that is distributed each year.
More recently, Roberson asked if there was a way to help the school meet immediate needs. Principal Tera Albert provided feedback, and Roberson visited the school to make a gift for the purchase of laser printers and a portable cart for a whiteboard.
“These additions will make a big difference for our school,” Albert said. “We’re so grateful to Father Roberson for thinking of us.”
Father Roberson toured the school and reminisced about his time there. He said he was impressed by the students and grateful for the education provided by the faculty.
His hope, he said, is that his gift will be viewed as “sowing seeds” and will encourage others to do the same.
“Sacred Heart is doing tremendous work, you can see it in the classroom,” Father Roberson said. “The work of Catholic schools is so important. I believe we should all do what we can to help them grow and thrive for years to come.”
