Sooner speaks at FCA Fellowship of Christian Athletes club held its gym night Sept. 25, with students participating in the tortilla slap challenge, playing games, devouring snacks and listening to OU football player Brynden Walker give a lecture on faith.
AP Lit hits the road AP Literature classes took a field trip to the Cowboy and Western Heritage Museum to learn about Western tropes in order to better understand their reading assignment: “All the Pretty Horses.”
The classes participated in a scavenger hunt focused on Western art and the symbolism mirrored in the book.
Latham hosts lecture BMCHS hosted “Dreamland Burning” author Jennifer Latham, who gave a talk on the Tulsa Race Massacre and the inspiration for her book. Incoming freshmen are required to read the novel as their summer reading assignment. Latham also held a workshop for students with interest in writing.
“I liked how she talked about some stories from people who lived through the event,” freshman Margo Webb said. “It let you connect to the people it affected and see their story.”
Runners bond at Chile Pepper The boys and girls cross country teams competed in the 5k event at the Chile Pepper Festival in Fayetteville, Arkansas.
For the boys, senior Joe Hoch was the Irish’s top finisher, while freshman Camryn Kanaly led the girls.
For some, this was their first time attending the Chile Pepper.
Freshman Anna McFadden said she had a great experience with the meet and got to know her teammates better.
“It was such a huge meet and it was just so fun to be with the team,” McFadden said. “I love all the girls on the team. They are just the best people.”
Cheer brings home hardware After months of practice, the cheer team placed first at the 5A cheer Performance State Championship.
“It was such a special experience and is something I will remember forever,” said senior Kyla Reid, “especially since it was my senior year and how much our team has bonded and the memories we have made together.”
Last week, the team started practice for their Gameday State competition, scheduled for November.
