Kathy Rooker, from Saint Charles Borromeo Catholic School in Oklahoma City, was named the 2022 Educator of the Year during the 2022 Education Institute held on Sept. 16 at Bishop McGuinness Catholic High School in Oklahoma City.
Rooker has taught fifth grade for 15 years and was previously a kindergarten teacher for six years. She is known for taking her deep spirituality to the classroom and interacting with her students; recognizing they are created in the image and likeness of God.
One of her peers wrote, “She models an apostle going to make disciples; this is her goal as an educator here.”
Rooker is also known for engaging her students in a variety of ways, especially focusing on science and hands-on labs and activities.
The other two finalists for Educator of the Year were Sherry Sanders from Rosary Catholic School in Oklahoma City and Constance Clark from Christ the King Catholic School in Oklahoma City.
