During the month of July, a prayer pilgrimage in the Archdiocese of Oklahoma City called El Camino de Apla’s will be held to pray for the archdiocese and for the canonization of Blessed Stanley Rother. “Apla’s” was the affectionate nickname given to Blessed Stanley by the Mayan descendants of Santiago Atitlan, Guatemala. It means “Francis” in their native language of Tz’utujil.
As part of the pilgrimage, prayer teams will visit every parish and mission in the archdiocese as well as the Blessed Stanley Rother Shrine to join with parishioners to pray specifically for four things: for the grace of conversion, for a greater outpouring of the Holy Spirit, for an advance of the mission of the Church and for the intercession of Blessed Stanley Rother. The opportunities to pray are open to everyone and no registration is required.
Archbishop Coakley has granted a partial indulgence for anyone who visits seven churches in the archdiocese with the Camino Passport, prays the intercessory prayer and completes at least one of the following at each location: pray the rosary, spend time in adoration, participate in the Sacrament of Reconciliation or attend Mass. Find the schedule and more information at archokc.org/aplascamino.
Blessed Stanley Rother, pray for us!
