Why is Catholic education important? Catholic schools are a wonderful place to nurture children in their academic development and faith. Our schools provide our students with the opportunities to serve one another and display God’s unconditional love to others. Catholic schools are one of the few places where we get the opportunity for excellent academics and to evangelize God’s word daily, providing a solid foundation for lifelong Catholics.
What are some of your goals as a new principal? I am a product of Catholic schools in the Archdiocese of Oklahoma City. I have very fond memories, lasting friendships and a strong Catholic foundation resulting from my time at Christ the King and Bishop McGuinness. My goal is that students of Sacred Heart graduate from this school with the same, and to help strengthen and fortify its presence to continue to serve the children of this community for another 100 years.
What is your favorite part of being an educator? I have been in education for more than 22 years in elementary through high school. My favorite part of teaching is the relationships you develop with your students. It is so rewarding to celebrate their successes and cheer them on. I love keeping in touch with former students as they further their education in college, start their careers and watch them start families of their own. I am so proud to have been a part of their journey.
What is your favorite way to spend time away from school? I love reconnecting with friends and family when I am not at school. I also like to spend as much time as possible with my kids. My daughter is getting ready to move across the country for her job, and my son is a sophomore at the University of Oklahoma. They are extremely busy so any moments I have with them are precious. I also enjoy working on my house and gardening in my spare time.
