Students revel in relics Cristo Rey OKC Catholic High School students enjoyed a relic exhibit Oct. 28 during theology classes. There were relics of many different saints, and it was interesting to see all the relics. There was someone there all day and when classes would go, he would give a short lesson on the relics and why they are so special, noting relics can’t be sold, only gifted. It was exciting to see all the students interested in the relics, especially the freshmen class, since most of them had never seen relics before.
Hooping around Basketball season has arrived at Cristo Rey. Practices have been underway, in advance of the first home games. The boys opened Nov. 4, with the girls, boosted by a large group of freshmen, were home on Nov. 8. The school seems excited for the season to get underway.
Trunk-or-Treat On Oct. 25, student life sponsors Jennifer Crofford and Abby Clanin, and the student council hosted their annual Trunk-or-Treat, the first one in our new parking lot. We had many families come for the fun. There were games, candy, face painting and concessions. Most of the clubs hosted a trunk, so did Student Council, and PTSO. Families, with their children, all dressed up, and Cristo Rey families were joined by other families from around the neighborhood. A favorite trunk was the cookie monster trunk hosted by Student Council. The event lasted from 6 to 8 p.m., with fun.
Happy Halloween On Halloween, the drama club hosted a dress down day where the students had the option to dress up or be out of uniform. Many people chose to wear a costume. My friends and I decided to dress up as the chipmunk girls from Alvin and the Chipmunks. Other people decided to just be out of uniform.
College Visits Many of the seniors have been going on college visits as groups or on their own. They have visited several colleges as a class. They have also been applying to different colleges, since in order to graduate from Cristo Rey you are required to apply to at least 10 different colleges. Students are not required to attend college but are required to apply. All students are encouraged to go to college, but of course if they want to take a different path they are supported by the school and get the help they need to succeed.
