Basketball season arrives The girls basketball team claimed its first win on Nov. 15, a game that saw the Royals fight to the end.
While the girls only had two players on the bench, they still prevailed. Coach Jerome Bennett is the head and Coach Orlene Chaney is the assistant. They have focused not only on coaching the girls, but also teaching them to have discipline and that we are a team. Also, to play till the end and not give up, but always have fun.
The day after the win, the girls' basketball team were guests of the Oklahoma State University Cowgirls basketball team's head coach, Jacie Hoyt. The coach invited them to watch the Cowgirls play. The Cristo Rey girls sat courtside and after the game met the players and had posters signed.
The girls said they had a great time in Stillwater. Oh, and the Cowgirls won their game.
Getting into the Spirit The sophomore class representatives hosted a spirit week, beginning with Blackout Monday on Nov. 18, where everyone was supposed to wear black. Unfortunately, school was canceled that day because of the weather.
On Tuesday it was career day. A lot of students went to school in the clothes of their preferred profession, with some in scrubs, others dressed like teachers and others as office professionals.
On Wednesdays we wore pink, and it was Pink Out day. Many wore pink hoodies and sweaters, since it was a bit chilly.
On Thursday it was sweater weather day, when students wore their favorite sweater or hoodie with jeans.
And Friday was color wars, with each class assigned a color, except for the freshmen, because it was their work day.
The sophomores and seniors wore black, the juniors wore yellow and the teachers and staff wore blue. It was a great week and a fun way to go into Thanksgiving break.
Eucharistic procession On Nov. 22, Cristo Rey enjoyed a Eucharistic Procession from Saint Paul Catholic Church in Del City to school. We bussed from the school to Saint Paul and celebrated Mass there. After Mass we processed back to Cristo Rey, where we had prayer time in the gym. For those unable to walk a mile, a van provided transportation, trailing behind the procession. It was a time to pray and reflect about anything that was on our mind. A pizza party for the entire school followed.
Freshmen fun Spanish teacher Pam Reynolds led a freshmen project, selling snacks after school. They sold hot Cheetos with cheese, tamales and atole, and many other snacks.
They also worked a project raising money donated to people in countries that are very poor.
