Homecoming brings out the spirit The Cristo Rey OKC Royals had an exciting week with homecoming and its many activities in what has become known as Spirit Week.
Monday was a comfy day, as “Pajama Day,” and the students love wearing pajamas to school, so it's a favorite of Spirit Week. Tuesday was “Twin Day.” Other highlights were “Western Day” on Wednesday, before students dressed as their favorite artist on Thursday. The students wore concert merch, band tees and costumes. Finally, on Friday, a pep rally celebrated the homecoming candidates and the homecoming basketball games.
Between the girls and boys game was the homecoming ceremony where the king and queen were announced. This year's homecoming king was Lisandro Collazo and homecoming queen was Mariana Ramos.
All grades also had a hallway decorating contest, with each assigned a hallway with the theme: "Show Your True Colors," our school colors. The freshmen chose Minion's theme. The sophomores decorated their hallway with blue and yellow hearts and blue and white streamers. The juniors chose "Under the Sea” and covered the walls with blue paper and added fishes with all the juniors’ names on them.
The senior class decorated with streamers and glittery things. The student council also made banners for the basketball teams with all the players' names on them.
Senior Night! Another celebration featured seniors from pom and basketball on senior night.
Between the boys and girls games, seniors were announced and presented with their parents. Each senior offered a favorite memory at Cristo Rey and said what they planned to do after high school.
MAP Testing Freshmen, sophomores, and juniors had Measures of Academic Progress (MAP) testing for the spring. They tested all morning for the first four classes of the day. After students either went to their fifth hour class or to first lunch. The rest of the day was a normal school day. Our seniors don't take MAP tests, so they had a normal day of school.
Happy Valentine's Day On Valentine's Day, the student council passed out roses, chocolates and notes for students. Some received cute baskets full of snacks and stuffed animals.
