On Feb. 4, more than 450 people gathered for the Sembradores de la Fe conference at the Catholic Pastoral Center in Oklahoma City. The day began with Mass celebrated by Archbishop Paul Coakley and Father Scott Boeckman, parochial vicar of Saint James Catholic Church.
Following Mass were presentations from speakers Mercedes Meraz, a parishioner at Holy Spirit Catholic Church in Mustang, Father Jose Román Flecha, priest of the Diocese of Leon, Spain, and Ricardo Grzona, president of Fundacion Ramon Pane.
Meraz explained how speaking at a conference impacts the one speaking as well as the attendees.
“As a speaker, Sembradores de la Fe is a blessing because you get to see the faces of people who are getting filled with the message and how they can connect it in their lives and take it back to their families,” Meraz said.
Maria Silva, who attended with her husband Hector Perez from Saint James Catholic Church, explained how attending the conference helps them to grow in their faith.
“This conference helps us to grow and take a step forward to seek our Lord in all that is in our hearts and unites in our community,” Silva said.
Beginning in 2023, Sembradores de la Fe will be combined with the annual archdiocesan Catechetical Conference into a bilingual event called the Discipleship Conference. This will take place on Saturday, Aug. 19. To obtain more information about the Discipleship Conference, text Text DC2023 to 84576 to receive updates.
