2024 Appeal exceeds goal with record contributions
As Archbishop Coakley covers the western two-thirds of the Oklahoma in his travels, he’s regularly encouraged at witnessing the impact of the Annual Catholic Appeal.
And he offers thanks, recognizing the fruits of the 2024 appeal – “Live in the Spirit” – which raised a record $4,262,341 – a 2.2% increase over 2023 – during a time of economic challenges.
“Your contributions are a powerful testament to the strength of the Catholic community and your dedication to making Christ’s love known in our parishes, schools and ministries,” Archbishop Coakley said. “Each of you plays an essential role in building the Kingdom of God here in Oklahoma.
“On behalf of myself and the entire archdiocese of Oklahoma City, thank you for your prayerful support and unwavering faith. Please know of my prayers for you and your loved ones. Together with God’s grace, we are transforming lives in central and western Oklahoma.”
The appeal supported many ministries, such as Catholic schools, campus ministries, evangelization and discipleship, parish facilities, the cause of canonization for Blessed Stanley Rother, priest retirements, preparation for the sacraments of Baptism, First Communion, Confirmation and marriage, along with many others.
One highlight was a discipleship event for youth, “Holy Fire,” which drew 877 middle school students.
“Holy Fire is the first opportunity that this group of youth have had to experience a Catholic youth conference,” said Katie Bartlet, director of religious education at Saint Matthew Catholic Church in Elk City. “They all loved it so much and cannot wait to attend next year.”
The appeal also saw 450 new families offering support.
“The success of the Annual Catholic Appeal is truly inspiring, especially with the remarkable increase in participation from new families,” said Jennifer Yardley, director of annual giving for the archdiocese. “It’s a powerful testament to the Holy Spirit at work, moving hearts and extending the reach of our mission.
“The 2024 success reflects the birth of new disciples and a growing spirit of generosity in our faith community.”
