This coming Friday, we will commemorate the 42nd anniversary of the martyrdom of Blessed Stanley Rother. It was in the early morning hours of the 28th of July 1981 that Blessed Stanley was killed in his rectory in the parish of Santiago, Atitlan, in Guatemala. His martyrdom capped off his 13 years of priestly service to the people of the parish and his example of selfless service has proved to be an inspiration to us all.

Since its opening in February, tens of thousands of visitors and pilgrims have visited the Blessed Stanley Rother Shrine. Many who visit the shrine are given pause as they admire the artwork and design of the church and chapel. Some unique aspects of the shrine need more explanation to fully appreciate their place in the building. 

Deacon Rodrigo Serna knew by age 9 he wanted to be a “padre” when he grew up, even practicing Mass at home and once “marrying” his cat and dog.

July is the month of the Carmelites, with the Solemnity of Our Lady of Mount Carmel on July 16, and several feast days of Carmelite saints, e.g., Saint Elijah - the prophet and patron of Carmel, Saint Titus Brandsma and Saint Teresa of Jesus of the Andes.

Father Zak Boazman was appointed by Archbishop Coakley as the diocesan coordinator for the 2022-2025 Eucharistic Revival - the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops initiative aimed at restoring the understanding, devotion and worship of Jesus Christ in the Eucharist. He coordinates efforts of the Eucharistic Revival in the archdiocese and communicates the progress with the national team in Washington D.C.

The practice of heraldry came about to allow people to see who you are. Originating in England in the 12th century, the coat of arms of a family, soldier and eventually a bishop, revealed much about the personal history and purpose of the person or unit.

Diocesan technology leaders from across the country traveled to Oklahoma City during the last week of June for the 39th Annual Diocesan Information Solutions Community (DISC) Conference. Conference attendees were able to see the sights of Oklahoma City, including celebration of the conference’s opening mass with Bishop Jeffrey Monforton from the Diocese of Steubenville in the Blessed Stanley Rother Shrine Chapel. 

This book, “The Pope and the Holocaust: Pius XII and the Vatican Secret Archives,” by Michael Hesemann was first published in German in 2018. It was published in English in August 2022. He is the author of several books “Mary of Nazareth” (2016), “Jesus of Nazareth” (2021) and co-authored with Msgr. Georg Ratzinger, “My Brother, the Pope” (2012). He has also appeared on EWTN, The Discovery Channel and The History Channel.  The foreword is by Father Peter Gumpel, S.J., who is the relator in the beatification process for Pope Venerable Pius XII.
