The Corporal Works of Mercy are found in the teachings of Jesus and give us a model for how we should treat all others, as if they were Christ in disguise. They "are charitable actions by which we help our neighbors in their bodily needs" (USCCA). They respond to the basic needs of humanity as we journey together through this life.
People in prison are still people, made in the image and likeness of God. No matter what someone has done, they deserve the opportunity to hear the Word of God and find the Truth of the message of Christ.
In 2009, Kolbe Prison Ministries started working with incarcerated men and women in Texas to help them heal and grow in their faith. The ministry expanded to Oklahoma in 2024.
Led by God’s call through the corporal works of mercy to visit the imprisoned, our mission is to share the love of Jesus Christ and teach the fullness of the truth of the Catholic faith to incarcerated men and women. We carry out this mission by presenting an intense three-day retreat within prisons, followed by ongoing Catholic formation.
This ministry has enriched and reinvigorated the spiritual lives of thousands of inmates. Prison ministry will also include Bible studies, regular Masses and OCIA classes and formation.
