Communicating the Catholic faith and mission to “Go Make Disciples” always has been important, but during the past few months, the many ways in which we communicate in the Archdiocese of Oklahoma City from social media to live-streaming have become vital in our ability to stay connected.
The Sooner Catholic newspaper, which reaches more than 50,000 Catholic homes, along with more than a dozen social media platforms, Oklahoma Catholic Radio, the archdiocese’s website, a new Red Dirt Catholics podcast and many more communication tools have provided a way for Archbishop Coakley, clergy, parishes, ministries and lay men and women to share their Catholic faith directly and broadly throughout central and western Oklahoma.
We’ve also heard from many people who had left the Church, who now are seeking to return after participating in online prayers and Masses. Others are seeking to join the Church as new Catholics. Archbishop Coakley’s live-streamed Rosary alone reached more than 22,000 people.
While all of these evangelization tools, including the Sooner Catholic, are technically free for parishioners in the archdiocese, their success relies on yearly “subscriptions” through the Sooner Catholic Communications Appeal to help pay for delivery of the newspaper to those who cannot afford it and to provide live-streaming capabilities. The “subscriptions” also are vital to helping pay for printing the newspaper and mailing issues directly to households, schools, prisons and retirement centers.
As evangelization and education needs have changed over the past 10 years, the archdiocese has worked to reach parishioners and others in the community with new and changing forms of communication. These tools and your support allow us to be successful in our service to programs in the archdiocese and in our mission to build a culture of conversion and discipleship.
Thank you for your generosity and for your participation in bringing the love and mercy of Jesus Christ to thousands of Oklahomans. Please consider helping to continue the mission with a gift to the 2020 Sooner Catholic Communications appeal.Click here to give now.
Yours in Christ,
