A letter from Father Brian Buettner, Vocations Director
“My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me.” – John 10:27
This verse from the Gospel of John is the theme for the 2021 Seminarian Education Appeal.
Jesus calls us each by name to follow him. His call is an invitation to become an intimate friend with him. The Sacred Heart of Jesus so greatly desires to be available to us that he gives us himself in the Eucharist.
There are young men in our communities whom Jesus is calling to follow him as a priest, and to bring the Eucharist to his people. But, that call is competing with the distracting voice of the world. I encourage you to persevere in praying for these young men that they will hear the clear and authentic voice of the Lord.
John 10:28 goes on to say, “I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish.” This promise is fulfilled at every Mass when Jesus gives the faithful his own body, blood, soul and divinity to nourish our souls.
Without priests, we will not have the Eucharist. So, join me in fervently praying for our seminarians, the future of the Church!
Today, 21 young men in the Archdiocese of Oklahoma City are listening to and discerning God’s call to the priesthood. This is only possible with your prayers, encouragement and financial support.
Please take time to consider joining the Living Faith Society with a monthly give of < $42/mo. Members of the Living Faith Society make automatic monthly gifts and receive regular updates about our seminarians.
Thank you for your prayers and support, and please continue to pray that our seminarians will always be attentive to the Lord!
In Christ,
Rev. Brian Buettner
Vocations Director
Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,
The figure of Jesus Christ as the Good Shepherd resonates with Oklahomans who recognize his ministry reflected powerfully in our own good shepherd, Blessed Stanley Rother. Priests are called to be shepherds of God’s people and accompany them through the joys and difficulties of life. Priestly ministry is a call to service and sacrifice. It is the same call that our 21 seminarians of the Archdiocese of Oklahoma City are discerning during their years of seminary formation.
Your prayers and support are an encouragement to me and all our priests as well as the seminarians and young men discerning their vocation. Your sacrificial gifts make it possible for men to answer God’s call to service without financial barriers. Please prayerfully consider supporting seminarians and future priests of the archdiocese for generations to come by joining the Living Faith Society with a monthly gift.
Thank you and God bless you.
Sincerely yours in Christ,
Most Reverend Paul S. Coakley
Archbishop of Oklahoma City
