Site Work ContinuesIn the last days of March 2020, Bergkamp Construction began moving heavy equipment onto the site and surveying the property. On Monday, April 6, 2020, Archbishop Paul Coakley visited the site of the Blessed Stanley Rother Shrine to see first-hand the initiation of work on the site.
Bergkamp began with the first step of construction - clearing and rebalancing the 60 acre former Brookside Golf Course. This included the removal of the golf course concrete cart paths, trees and ponds.
The next step was to "rebalance" the site by moving massive amounts of dirt around the site from the high end near I-35 to the low end near Shields Boulevard. The rebalancing utilized a significant amount of dirt to build the roughly 50-foot Tepeyac Hill on the west end of the property.
Then ground work was performed, including the laying of conduits and pipes underground. Next, the concrete base of the Shrine Church was poured. Then steel beams were erected and framing was installed.
