Archbishop Coakley has given his blessing to begin the process of establishing a community of Sisters to serve in the archdiocese.
On this site, we are specifically promoting the foundation of a new religious community of Sisters to serve in the Archdiocese of Oklahoma City.
This proposed community would be called by the Archbishop to serve in Catholic Schools, parish ministries and Archdiocesan ministries.
This is an ongoing process in its initial steps. We are asking for the guidance of the Holy Spirit and waiting on Him to reveal further developments.
Step 1 A "study group" has been gathering to look at the needs of the Archdiocese, the interest of women in serving in our particular local Church of Oklahoma City and the willingness to support this new work among the faithful of the Archdiocese.
Step 2 Gathering women, specifically interested in serving as religious Sisters in our Archdiocese for days of reflection and prayer.
Step 3 Consulting with already existing communities of Sisters regarding individual and communal discernment of the call to religious life.
Step 4 Establishing a house of discernment guided by Sisters from an existing community.
Other steps would be establishing a house of formation, directed by the Sisters mentioned in Step 4, first vows and eventual canonical establishment by the Archbishop with approval of the Holy See.
Step one is completed. The "Sisters Study Group" has ascertained there is a definite need for Sisters in our schools, parishes and diocesan offices. There is enthusiastic support among the people of the Archdiocese for the establishment of such a community. The study group will continue to meet to make recommendations to the Archbishop on ongoing work in beginning this community of Sisters. They will continue to support in practical ways this Sisters community.
Step 2 has begun, with the first day of reflection held in May 2024 with others held in the Fall of 2024. For more information please continue to visit this website.
